Our Lady of the Holy Rosary church has a reliquary of Pope St. John Paul II and St. Faustina. We are one of the few churches in the country to have these First Class relics.
From the earliest times, Christians have honored the relics – the physical remains and personal effects – of early Christians who were martyred or lived especially holy lives. There are three classes of relics. First-class relics are actual pieces of a saint's body, usually bone or hair. Second-class relics are clothing or personal effects of a saint. Third-class relics are ordinarily pices of cloth that have touched a first- or second- class relic.
Traditionally, people venerate relics by touching or kissing the reliquary in which the fragment of the holy person’s physical remains or personal item is kept. Veneration is an expression of reverence for the holiness of the saint, and pilgrims often ask for the saint to intercede on their behalf before God for spiritual assistance, physical healing, or other particular graces. Every third Thursday of the month is a healing mass at 6:00 PM to venerate our First Class Relic of Pope St. John Paul II and ask him and St. Faustina for healing.
