Youth Confirmation –Restored Order

Restored Order Coming Soon!

Bishop Libasci has announced that our Diocese will implement the restored Sacramental order.  This means that Confirmation will return to its rightful place as the second Sacrament of initiation.  By 2021 it will be the norm in our diocese for 2nd graders to receive First Reconciliation and for 3rd graders to receive their Confirmation and their First Holy Communion at the same Mass.  There will be no change during 2017-2018 because this is the year of preparation.

The restored order is very good news for youth ministry because it will allow programs for youth to have a much wider focus–rather than just preparation for Confirmation.  It also emphasizes that we are all called to lifelong faith formation.  God is an Infinite Subject!  In the Book of Wisdom (11:22) it says that “Before the LORD the whole universe is as a grain from a balance or a drop of morning dew come down upon the earth.”  How then can we say that we don’t need any further faith formation?

Students who were not confirmed in third grade but are younger than tenth grade will be confirmed at some time between 2018-2021.  The Diocese has not yet established the protocols for which grades will be confirmed when.  As soon as we know this information we will post it.
