Holy Orders

Fr Paul with the Holy Eucharist

“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men” (Mt 4:19)

Are you called?

Some men are called to lay down their lives for the Church in the ordained ministry by the Sacrament of Holy Orders. These men stand in the person of Christ and serve their bride, the Church, by preaching, teaching, and celebrating the Sacraments.

Why  does the Catholic Church ordain only men?

For many years the question as to the ordination of women has troubled the unity of the Christian Church.  If you have similar questions, please click here to go to our Diocesan Webpage and a letter from Pope John Paul II.

Prayer for Vocations

Gracious and loving God, help the men and women of our parish to hear the call to serve the Diocese of Manchester.

Our needs are great and our people thirst for your presence.

Open the hearts of man, raise up faithful servants of the Gospel, dedicated holy priests, sisters and brothers, who will spend themselves for your people and their needs.

Bless those who are currently living their priestly or religious vocation with courage and perseverance.

Grant that many will be inspired by their example and faith.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Prayer to know My Vocation

Lord Jesus, up until now You have been quietly preparing  me to be Your disciple.  Now the time of preparation is ending.  I seem to hear You say to me as You said once to Peter:  “Will you also go away?”  Peter replied, “Lord, to whom shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life.”

I stand with Peter.  Through prayer and counsel, show me, Lord, where it is in Your vineyard that You want me to serve.  Then give me strength to be faithful.

Mary, Mother and model, help me to respond in generous love to the call of your divine Son.  Amen.

Vocations Prayer Chalice Program

Every weekend, a family comes forward during the weekend Holy Mass to receive a chalice which will remain with them for the week.  The family then prays for vocations within their own unit, for the parish, and for the diocese.  If you are interested in receiving the Vocations Chalice, click here.
