Holy Rosary Altar Servers
Altar Servers
The main task of the server is to model liturgical prayer with grace and reverence and enter whole-heartedly into the public worship of the community. Altar servers serve at all weekend liturgies and special celebrations throughout the year, such as weekday morning masses. The various tasks of an altar server usually include assisting with the book of prayers and carrying various objects in procession. Altar servers are expected to be familiar with the ebb and flow of liturgy, to anticipate each movement, cue and need.
Who may serve?
One is called to serve the Body of Christ. Often, a child may not be sure of his or her call, so one way to tell is to notice if the child is interested in the workings of the Holy Mass. Holy Mass is not a performance; it is sacred prayer. Although a child may not fully comprehend the holiness of the Mass, often a child who shows reverence toward the Sacred Mass may have a call to serve.
This ministry is open to boys and girls from the 3rd grade through 12th grade. Altar server training sessions are offered throughout the year with the expectation of regular attendance.
